Elsie "Dixie" Snook

A funeral service for Elsie "Dixie" Snook, formerly of Harbor Hills, was March 19, 2008, in the Chapel of the Hoskinson Funeral Home, Kirkersville, with Pastors Kevin Blade and Pamela Combs officiating.

Mrs. Snook has recently made her home at Sharonbrooke Inn, Newark. Burial at the Van Horn Cemetery near Vanlue in Hancock County will be at the convenience of the family.

Mrs. Snook died at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, March 15. Mrs. Snook was retired for the Lakewood School System where she was a member of the Hebron faculty. She was a graduate of The Ohio State University.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Newark and the Harbor Hills Women's Club; a volunteer curator at the Buckeye Lake Museum; and a volunteer at the Heath Nursing Home and the Dawes Arboretum.

Dixie enjoyed playing bridge, following the Ohio State Buckeyes football team, reading and helping others.

In addition to her parents George and Grace Dix, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Snook; brothers, Robert and Chuck Dix; aunt, Vesta Dix Weiss; stepmother, Ruth Dix; brother-in-law, John Sommers Jr.; and great-nephew, Mark Sommers.

She is survived by her sisters, Dorothy Sommers, of Urbana, and Barbara Dix, of Columbus; brother, Tom (Phyllis) Dix, of Moscow; sister-in-law, Sharon Dix, of Kenton; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Joy and Howard Siegel, Ned and Kathi Siegel, and Jan Batterson.

The family has requested that expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church, 1000 Granville Road, Newark, OH 43055.
