Martha E. Reed

Martha E. Reed, 70, of Portsmouth, died Thursday, March 6, 2008, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

A native of Portsmouth, she was born June 16, 1937, to the late Clarence Tingler and Mildred Rogers Tingler.

Martha was a member of Mabert Road Baptist Church, where she had been a secretary for many years. She was a graduate of Portsmouth High School, and retired from Oberling's with more than 40 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Reed, on May 13, 1993; two sons, Robert Michael Reed and Mark Douglas Reed; and one sister, Loretta Layher.

She is survived by one daughter, Pam Reed of Buckeye Lake; one brother, Clarence Tingler (Evelyn) of Friendship; two sisters, Myrtle Arms (Gene) of Rubyville, and Sarah Haughn (Ed) of Portsmouth; a brother-inlaw, Charles Layher of Wheelersburg; an adopted brother, Jesse Parsley; two adopted sisters, Opal Parsley and Judy Cubbege; her best friend, Phyllis Jewell; many nieces and nephews; many great-nieces and great-nephews; many loving friends; and two granddogs, Schooner and Scarlett.

Martha loved spending time at home and at church with her family and friends. She was an avid Ohio State University Buckeyes fan.

Funeral services were March 9, 2008, at Mabert Road Baptist Church, with pastors Mike Queen, Ed Davis and Jack Williams officiating. Interment followed in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace.
