John R. Welker
John R. Welker, 85, of Baltimore, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, at FairfieldMedical Center.
He was a retired maintenance person for Crown Zellerbach with 30 plus years of service. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He attended Baltimore United Methodist Church and was a member of the Baltimore Masonic Lodge No. 455, American Legion Post No. 11 and Baltimore VFW Post No. 3761.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Margaret Welker; daughter, Jan (Steve) Thompson of Lancaster; son, Jon R. (Patti) Welker of Fulton, Miss.; stepchildren, Gary (Helen) Messerly of Lancaster, Tim (Chong) Messerly of Tacoma, Wash., David Messerly of South Carolina, Denny Messerly of Baltimore and Kay
Bob) Eby of Lancaster; brother, Ralph (Flo) Welker of Baltimore; sisters, Lucille Jividen of Baltimore, Opal Wallis of Pataskala and Dayonze Murray of Baltimore; 12 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wade and Edith Welker; grandson, Jared Johnson and brother, Chalmer "Bill" Welker.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Johnson-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, 207 S. Main St., Baltimore, with the Rev. Branson Hawkes officiating.
Burial to follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Baltimore with the Baltimore VFW Post No. 3761 conducting military rites at the cemetery.
Friends may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
