Verla "Hooch" Haynes

Verla F. "Hooch" Haynes, age 70, of Buckeye Lake, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, at her residence.

She was born July 7, 1937, in Obetz to the late Daniel and Ina (Benson) Haynes. "Hooch" was a 1955 graduate of Hamilton Township High School. She retired from General Motors where she was one of their first women supervisors.

"Hooch" was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, FOE 2801 Ladies Auxiliary, Buckeye Lake Historical Society, Central Ohio Management Association, past president of Cranberry Bay Homeowners Association and a trustee of the Buckeye Lake Area Civic Association. She was active in sports all her life. "Hooch" was inducted into the Hamilton Township Hall of Fame and Columbus Softball Hall of Fame, coached and played AAU Basketball and ASA Softball and helped organize the area's first women's basketball league.

She is survived by brothers and sisters, Esther Crouch of Corning, Betty (Ron) Klein of Carroll, Karl

Arlene) Haynes of Newark, Jim

Bugs" (Jeanette) Haynes of Carroll, and Mary Ann (Keith) Harden of Carroll; very special friend, Judy Guth; and many nieces, nephews and friends. "Hooch" was preceded in death by sister, Mona Mae Spangler; sister-in-law, Dora Jean Haynes; and brothers-inlaw, Lowell Spangler and Ralph Crouch.

Friends may visit 2-4 and 6-

p.m. Friday at the Dwayne R. Spence Funeral Home, 650 W. Waterloo St., Canal Winchester. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church, 28 Elm St., Canal Winchester, with Pastor Curtis Emerson officiating. Interment will follow at Betzer Cemetery.
