Mary Azalea Mick

A funeral service for Mary Azalea Mick, 87, of Newark, was January 29, 2008, at Boring Sheridan Funeral Home, Thornville, with Pastor Geri Lampton officiating. Burial was at Lutheran Reformed Cemetery, Thornville.

Mary passed away Saturday at Heath Nursing Care.

She was born Jan. 7, 1921, in Burnsville, W.Va., to the late Walter L. and Edith V. (Moore) Mick. She was a United Methodist by faith. Miss Mick lived most of her life in Alexandria, Va. She retired from the federal government, where she worked for the U.S. Department of Defense in the Pentagon for 30 years.

Mary was active by volunteering at Constitution Hall, Mary Washington House and Sweet Adelines, where she sang and designed and constructed many costumes for her group. Mary has been a resident of Newark since 1999, when she moved here to be close to family.

Survivors include brothers Walter L. (Ginger) Mick, of Yakima, Wash., and Kermit (Virginia) Mick, of Thornville, as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Walter and Edith, she was preceded in death by brothers, Wayne, Randal and Joseph Mick.
