Lakewood students get free breakfasts

HEBRON - Every Lakewood student will be able to have a free breakfast starting early next month.

On February 4, Hebron Elementary and Jackson Intermediate students will be offered a daily free breakfast. They will join middle and high school students who have been offered free breakfasts for months. Students must arrive on time to get breakfast.

Studies have shown that students who eat breakfast are better able to concentrate on learning and have fewer behavior problems. Breakfast prepares students with fuel for a day of learning and has been proven to reduce tardiness, absenteeism and visits to the school nurse.

Students will be served a different breakfast combination every day, which may include cereal, muffins, pop tarts, breakfast bars, yogurt, 100% fruit juice and milk. The nutritional value of each breakfast will comply with all USDA standards for elementary students as well as meeting the standards for Lakewood's district-wide Wellness Policy.

Any questions about the district wide complimentary breakfast program should be directed to food service director Mary Jennie at 928-8886.
