Judith M. Whitmer

A funeral service for Judith M. Whitmer, 59, of Grand Haven, Mich., and formerly of Thornville, was January 7, 2008, at Resurrection Life Church, with the Rev. Bernie Groendyke and the Rev. Nick Vanderveen officiating. Interment was in Lake Forest Cemetery.

Judy went home to Heaven on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Judy was born March 14, 1948, in Tampa, Fla., and lived most of her life in Thornville. She moved to Grand Haven in 2002 to be closer to her children. Judy loved spending time with her family and was very proud to be Grammy to her grandson, Seth Hunt Roffey, age 7. Judy loved living in Grand Haven and felt living there was like being on vacation. She especially loved spending time at the beach. It was where she felt especially close to the Lord. Judy was an active member of Resurrection Life Church. She truly loved her church family. Judy had a deep faith and close relationship with the Lord.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald E. Roffey; her mother, Flora Queen; her father, Donald Thompson; a sister, Karen Hartman; a brother, Danny Barnhard; and a niece, Richelle Reider.

She is survived by her children, Jeff Roffey, of Grand Haven, Mich., Rona Roffey, of Ingleside, Ill., and Jennifer Whitmer, of Grand Haven; grandson, Seth Roffey, of Grand Haven.; a soon-to-be granddaughter from China, Addison Roffey (Rona); sister, Phyllis (Rudy) Reider, of Newark; aunt, Maxine Cochran, of Newark; and extended family, caring neighbors, and very special friends. Additionally, she was blessed with special neighbors, Mark and Ann Pendery. Judy will be greatly missed but we celebrate her Homecoming and know we will see her again.
