All Veterans' Salute
The new memorial, with the words "All gave some, some gave all," honors all American combat veterans. A host of local officials turned out, lead by State Senator Tim Schaffer, State Representative Dan Dodd, Fairfield County Sheriff Dave Phalen, Perry County Commissioner Lonnie Wood and Reynoldsburg Mayor Bob McPherson. They were joined by several state VFW officers- Immediate Past State Commander Bill Seagraves, State Chaplain Rev. Dr. Barry Walker and State President of the Ladies Auxiliary Marti Bridges. Dodd was the keynote speaker. He said "remember and celebrate the sacrifices" of our combat veterans. Dodd praised the new memorial as "a great tribute." He also presented a commendation to local VFW officials.
The ceremony ended with a stirring rendition of "Amazing Grace," played by bagpiper Lt. George Fulcher of the Columbus Division of Fire. He is a member of the Columbus Police & Fire Pipes & Drums. In his closing remarks, Memorial Committee chair Jim Nix asked everyone to "keep our troops in your thoughts and prayers."
