Sara M. Sunkel
A funeral service for Sara M. Sunkel, 80, of Jacksontown was held Oct. 29, 2007, in the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Homes, with the Rev. Jim Addy officiating. Burial was in Fairmount Cemetery.
Mrs. Sunkel died Friday at her residence. She was born March 20, 1927, in Coshocton, to the late Charles and Virginia (Foster) Elliott.
Mrs. Sunkel was a devoted wife and mother. She was a member and secretary of Westside Chapel Church of Christ in Christian Union. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years. Mrs. Sunkel graduated in 1945 from Plainfield High School. She had won the State Spelling Bee Competition.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, the Rev. Ray Sunkel, whom she married Dec. 23, 1951; children, Carol (Steve) Davis, Newark, Steven (Mary) Sunkel, of Leitchfield, Ky., David (Aleta) Sunkel, of Carroll, Sandy (Jeff) Lothes, of Newark, and John Sunkel, of Jacksontown; brothers, Donald Elliott, of West Lafayette, Richard (Janice) Elliott, Warsaw; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Newell, Betty Phillips, Grace Jacobs; and two brothers, John Elliott, Alvin Elliott.
