Jack Edwin Amspaugh

A memorial service celebrating the life of Jack Edwin Amspaugh, 82, formerly of Hebron, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007, in the chapel of the Hoskinson Funeral Home, Kirkersville, with Pastors Steven Brown and Morgan Wickhizer officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Kirkersville Cemetery.

Jack died early Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, at Selma Markowitz Hospice Care Center in Newark.

He was a graduate of Hebron High School, Class of 1943. He entered the US Army in 1943, and served three years with the 333rd regiment of the 84th Infantry Division, and saw service in the Ardennes at the Battle of the Bulge, in Rhineland and Central Europe. He worked for many years as a computer operator at the Newark Air Force Base prior to his retirement. He enjoyed gardening, growing his own roses and yard work.

He was a member of the Hebron Christian Church, and Hebron Post 285 of the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Larry, (who died at birth); his wife, Sara Jane Amspaugh, in 2004; his grandson, Jeremy, in 1983; his brother, Charles "Chalky" Amspaugh; and his sister, Doris Roberts.

He is survived by his children, Douglas (Marianne) Amspaugh, of Hebron and Gail (Nancy) Amspaugh, of Bradenton, Fla.; his stepdaughters, Darenda Gee, of Gahanna, and Thea Ridder, of Sumter, S.C.; his sister, Eileen Stalter, of Newark; his grandchildren, Krista Sprankle, Jaylyn and Justin Amspaugh, Dara Taylor, Ryan Ridder, and Ethan Gee; three great-grandchildren; his former wives, Emma Jean Lloyd and Dorothy Asselin; and several nieces and nephews.

His family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, 285 E. Main St., Kirkersville, where an on-line video tribute and guest register is available at www.hoskinsonfuneral. com.

The family has requested that expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial contributions be made to Hebron Post 285 American Legion, P.O. Box 791, Hebron, OH 43025.
