Shirley Marie McKown Chaney

A funeral service celebrating the life of Shirley Marie McKown Chaney, 76, of Millersport; was held Oct. 15, 2007 at the Fletcher Chapel United Methodist Church, with Pastor Phyllis Fetzer officiating. Burial followed at Flint Cemetery, Worthington.

Shirley died Thursday evening in Lancaster following an extended illness. She was born in Mount Vernon, Ohio the daughter of the late Carlton L.& Helen Louise Lovell Jacobs.

Shirley was an avid gardener, reader and collector of dolls. She had a wonderful sense of humor, a generous spirit and a kind heart. Shirley was loved and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

She was a member of the Newark chapter of the D.A.R.; American Doll Association and the Fletcher Chapel U.M.C. She was employed by the Ohio State University, where she worked on the Current Digest of the Soviet Press.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert McKown in 1995; her son. Joseph McKown in 1979; her grandson, John Paul McKown in 2005; and her brother, Donald Jacobs.

She is survived by her husband, Newell, of Millersport; her children, Cathy (Joseph) Mc- Donough of Columbus, Michael (Lorie) McKown of Worthington, and Amy (Paul) Halverson of Columbus; her step-children, Bruce (Linda) Chaney of Lebanon, TN, Kim (Jody) Chaney of Pataskala, Jackie (Tom) McCurdy of Lancaster and Sam (Rhonda) Chaney of Tucson, AZ; her brother, Richard (Linda) Jacobs of Columbus; her 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
