A graveside funeral service celebrating the life of Chance Brockway, 88, of Buckeye Lake; was held June 13 at Glen Rest Memorial Estates, Reynoldsburg with full military honors.
Chance died Saturday morning at his home following an extended illness. He was born in Columbus on October 21, 1918, the son of the late Chauncey Whitney and Mabel Christy Brockway. He was a professional photographer noted for his work with the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Buckeye Lake area. Chance, with the help of his daughter Sondra Gartner, produced Images of America: Buckeye Lake in early 2006. His book took the reader on a visual journey from the 1800s through Buckeye Lake Amusement Park's heyday and today.
He was a member of the Buckeye Lake Yacht Club, Greater Buckeye Lake Historical Society, Buckeye Lake Civic Club, Buckeye Lake Eagles #2801, V.F.W., American Legion Post 285 Hebron, Baltimore Masonic Lodge #475and the Ohio Camera Club.
He is survived by his wife, the former Donna Jean Roley, whom he married on June 5, 1942; his children and their spouses, Sondra (Tim) Gartner of Newark, Chance (Carol) Jr. of Harbor Hills, Jane (Lee) Meyer of Willard, Janet (Tim) Casler of Heath, Scott (Kelly) of Granville; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
