THORNVILLE - The Shelly Company recently donated nearly $40,000 in labor and materials to construct new sidewalk here.

Work began early last month on the project to improve safety for pedestrians. Six hundred lineal feet of sidewalk was constructed along Park Drive to get pedestrians out of the roadway.

Shelly Vice President Rob Sharrett said the locally based company decided to donate the sidewalk to give kids a safe place to walk when classes from the Thornville Elementary School are walking to the Thornville park. In the past, the classes had to use the road.
