Lakewood Lady Lancers head out for the traditional firetruck ride through Hebron to the high school after winning the Division II softball Central District title last Thursday at Pickerington Central High School. Amber Bowman, the only senior on the squad, holds the championship trophy high. The Lancers avenged last year's district final loss to Buckeye Valley by defeating the Lady Barons by a 4-1 score. Lakewood won its sixth district title in the last seven years. The now 23-6 Lancers were to meet Hamilton Ross, from the Cincinnati area, in a regional semi-final Wednesday at Clayton Northmont. The Liberty Union Lady Lions lost the Division III Central District final by a 2-1 score when North Union's Kalee Price hit a home run with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Lions took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. North Union tied it up in the third and strong pitching and defense by both teams kept it tied until Price's home run. Liberty Union wrapped up the season at 21-7. Sheridan Lady Generals also fell victim to a late inning home run in a 4-1 Division II district final loss to Circleville. The Generals had a one run lead until Lindsey Webb hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning. Sheridan finished the season 23-2. Beacon photo by Charles Prince.
