Lady Lancers, Lions & Generals keep the season alive

PICKERINGTON - It's up to the girls!

None of the lake area baseball teams are still alive in tournament play. Lakewood Lancers were the last to fall when New Albany eliminated them in the district semi-final Monday by a 10-3 score.

Three of the four lake area softball teams are competing in district finals this week.

In Division II, the 22-6 Lady Lancers meet the 18-8 Buckeye Valley Lady Barons at 5 p.m. at Pickerington Central in the district final. It's a rematch of last year's district final when the Barons bested the Lancers 5-3.

Tuesday, Lakewood and Teays Valley were scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning when catcher Lindsay Barrett hit a two-run homer in straightaway center field. Her battery mate, Lancer ace Alissa Birkhimer, pitched a no-hitter shutout. Lakewood is ranked seventh in the final Division II state poll.

EarlierThursday in Division III, the 21-6 Lady Lions beat Mount Gilead 9-6 to reach the district final at 5 p.m. at Pickerington Central.

At Chillicothe, Division II Sheridan Lady Generals blanked rival New Lexington 11-0 to reach the district final.

Sophomore pitcher Brittany Jones gave up just two hits. Kelsey Lentz had three hits for the Generals.

The 23-1 Lady Generals play 19-7 Circleville at 5 p.m. on Friday at Chilliothe Unioto for the district title.
