Poppy Day is May 5

MILLERSPORT - Saturday, May 5 is Poppy Day for the Millersport American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Members will be distributing poppie downtown and at businesses.

Kelsey Reasoner is 2007 Little Miss Poppy. She is in the first grade and is a junior auxiliary member of Unit 637. She is eligible through the military service of her late grandfather, James Solcumb. Kelsey is the daughter of Dwayne and Dina Reasoner of Millersport.

Poppy Day is sponsored each year by the American Legion Auxiliary to remind all Americans of the sacrifice of life and health made by the men and women of our armed forces. The petals are a rich scarlet color and like our hospitalized veterans, this plant cannot live alone but thrives in groups or clumps.

Poppies are handmade by veterans and never are sold. Your contributions are devoted entirely to rehabilitation and child welfare work for the veteran and his or her family.
