John D. Bower Sr.
John D. Bower Sr., 80, of Sugar Grove, passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at the Doctors West Hospital, Columbus.
He was born on Nov. 26, 1926, in Storm Station, to the late Alfred and Hazel M. (Clingman) Bower. John served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a carman for the Chessie System Railroad, Columbus. John was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Sugar Grove; Brotherhood of Railway Carman; Senior Citizens of Sugar Grove; and the C&O Retired Veterans Club.
John is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Jean (Kennedy) Bower; sons James D. (Rosemary) Bower Sr. of Millersport, Jack D. Bower of Sugar Grove, John D. (Penny) Bower Jr. of Sugar Grove; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Laughlin and Frances (Ed) Weekly; and brother-inlaws, Richard Kennedy and Frank Kennedy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Sheila Bower; brother, Warren Bower; and sisters, Joyce Richards and Glenna Howes.
Services were March 17 with Pastor Meg D. Knape officiating. Interment followed in Floral Hills Memory Gardens with military honors.
