Free help available Feb. 11 for college financial aid

NEWARK - Applying for financial aid beyond high school can often be complicated, confusing, and even intimidating to college-bound students.

College Goal Sunday, a free program that helps students and families complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), aims to demystify the financial aid process. Hosted by the Ohio Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (OASFAA), this one-dayfree event will be held statewide on Sunday, February 11, at 2:00 p.m. In Licking County, residents can attend a session at The Reese Center, located on the campus of The Ohio State University at Newark and COTC.

During College Goal Sunday, college financial aid professionals will be available to walk students and parents through completion of the FAFSA, a necessary step in qualifying for federal and state grants, loans, and other forms of financial assistance including certain scholarships. In addition, attending College Goal Sunday will help students who plan to enter college in the fall of 2007 meet the FAFSA priority filing date of March 1, 2007.

Participants will need to bring parents' and students' 2006 IRS 1040 tax return and W2?s along with other 2006 income and benefits information. While anyone is welcome, high school seniors and current college students will receive the most benefit from this workshop.

Families are encouraged to register for the free event at www. ohiocollegegoalsunday.org (http:// www.ohiocollegegoalsunday.org). Walk-ins are welcome, but due to the great demand for assistance in completing the eight-page FASFA, registration is encouraged.
