Reader misses Walnut Township's notices

Editor: I am a resident near the northern border of Walnut Township. Twice recently there have been zoning or zoning appeal meetings that were scheduled or happened in the township that I did not know about. Because I am the leader of the Baltimore Boy Scout troop, I was able to learn from a parent about a rezoning issue of a stone/ gravel business along Ohio 37.

Editor: I don't live in Millersport or Hebron nor do I live in Baltimore, (who would want to with Dave Mooney living there?) I have had the opportunity to read The Buckeye Lake Beacon a couple of times and both times there has been a letter from this Mooney person.

Firebowl moving to October

Editor: We started Firebowl in 2000 to raise funds to outfit the new fire truck that Thornville Fire Department had purchased; we raised a nice chunk of change and everyone was happy. Firebowl 2001 our goal was to raise funds to go towards buying a thermal imager. I was asked over and over "Why do we need this piece of equipment?

Editor: It seems that we need to have a sale on hand baskets 'cause we are all going to need one! What's with the "grinch" that thinks the firetrucks are toys?? What's with the zoning codes that have a # and an "oops we goofed"??

Fish fry/auction supporters thanked

Editor: Last Saturday was the Lakewood Athletic Booster's 7th Annual Fish Fry/Auction fundraiser. This year's event was one of the best to date. That's due to all of our hard working members and the overwhelming support of our local businesses and families that help us support our Lakewood athletes.

Chief: No plans for watercraft user, access fees

MILLERSPORT - ODNR's Division of Watercraft has no plans to seek user or launch fees. Chief Pamela Dillon delivered that message several times during Watercraft's Public Forum April 29 at Millersport Elementary School. Buckeye Lake was the first stop on a ten forum tour around the state.

Trustees approve first I-2 Industrial District

MILLERSPORT - Walnut Township Trustees unanimously approved the township's first I-2 General Industrial district at a special meeting Tuesday morning. The decision came on a request from Jerry Mock to rezone approximately 66 acres on the west side of Ohio 37 from I-1 Light Industrial to I-2 Industrial.

Sewer district to do smoke testing

THURSTON - The Walnut Creek Sewer District plans to begin smoke testing the sewer systems in the Villages of Pleasantville and Thurston next week. Testing is only done during dry weather. A field crew will be opening manholes in the streets and in utility easements in yards, and injecting smoke into the sewer lines and manholes to locate broken pipes and other defects.

Thorn Township Trustees approve zoning amendments

THORNVILLE - Are Thorn Township's zoning application fees too expensive? Many residents, particularly those living in Fireman's Park, think so. A group of Fireman's Park residents attended a special trustees meeting April 23. The meeting's purpose was to discuss changes to the township's zoning resolution, but some residents had fees on their minds.

BALTIMORE - Basil Joint Fire District will be conducting a live firetraining exercise at 1601 West Market Street in Baltimore, on Saturday, May 17. The training exercise will begin approximately at 8 a.m. and will conclude at around 4 p.m.

Chelsea Archer, daughter of Mike and Suzanne Archer signed a national letter of intent to play softball next fall for Ohio Dominican University in Columbus. She is a senior at Lakewood High School. Archer has been the Lady Lancers' starting shortstop for three years. She also played volleyball and basketball, lettering three of her four years in both sports. She plans to pursue a degree in Physical Therapy. Seated with Archer are her parents, Mike and Suzanne. HEBRON - Union Township is ready for the Main Event-literally! Monday night, the trustees unanimously approved a rezoning that will allow Main Events Promotions owner Steve Tilley to build a satellite location of his Newark based business along I-70.

Johnny Ray Soper

Johnny Ray Soper, 54, of Baltimore, died Sunday, May 4, 2008, at Ohio State University Hospital after a prolonged illness. John was born Nov. 21, 1953, in Cambridge, to the late Raymond H. Soper and Norma Stevens Soper. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in Germany. He was employed for a number of years in the building trade.
